Spring is in the air and the Everlastings are in full flower at the York Olive Oil Co. Meanwhile Arnaud has been busy with his real bread recipes and is now offering (along with the traditional sourdough), olive bread and his new chocolate bread (“Pain au Chocolat”) made with dark French chocolate. With no added sugar or cocoa powder it is savoury rather than sweet.
Not sweet, but addictive!
Bread production from our wood-fired oven is cranking up an extra 50% this weekend so hopefully now there will be enough to meet the demand. As usual, the weekend bake will happen on Saturday morning (first batch out of the oven at about 10:30am). If you’d like to order some bread but can’t make it here on Saturday please let us know and we’ll reserve some for you.

Real Bread with Real Truffles
This little beauty clutched in Arnaud’s exquisitely-manicured hand is a newly-unearthed black truffle from Manjimup.
Truffles are traditionally used in dishes such as risotto, pasta and simple scrambled egg, but we reckon they will work well with our real bread. This Saturday some shavings from this truffle will end up in a batch of wood-fired bread rolls. Watch this space to find out how we get on, or even better, why not come over on Saturday to try one for yourself.
Update:
Here’s how they turned out:

Very happy with the results. Commercial suicide, perhaps, as each roll contains $5 of real black truffle!
